what is going on in my head?
** i apoligize in advanced if it is in the wrong forum
well i recently purchased a low mileage jdm b18b. motor was extremely clean. block, pistons, belts etc.
when i took off the head though i noticed some slight scarring/gashes in the inner walls of the head.
im not exactly sure what couldve caused this, or if its normal at all?
let me know what you guys think. thanks

none. zero. clean as could be. like i said it was in great condition.
but lets take the situation, and say that he did clean it up. what couldve caused something like that? could it have been anything to do with the valvetrain components? rocker arms? it doesnt seem like it to me.
more importantly, will this have an effect on anything?

it's possible that happened during assembly of the head and compressing the springs. if there is not any shavings or other signs of damage I wouldn't worry too much about it.

I also have these marks in my ITR head as well. When I first saw them I was a little worried but looking at pics of everyone else's head's these marks appear to be pretty common. Just like others have said this looks like a manufacturing mark to me as I have seen this on quite a few heads now. Good question though and good pics illustrating what you were asking.

thanks for the responses everyone. i guess some heads do and some dont then, my previous b16 had no such markings. it probably is due to the manufacturing.
thanks again
