Default Cleaning the inside of the Head?

I just popped off my ZC valve cover and that SOB is so gummy and nasty in there. It looks like a cruddy old BBQ grill

Can I clean the internals of the head by spraying carb cleaner on it without damaging anything? and just drain the used cleaner and loosend crud out of the head and relube the internals with some Mobil1? IF not what do you recommend in place of this ghetto idea Thanx.

Everything will just drain back into the block if you do that. Instead what you should do is remove the head then clean it. Then put it back on freshly lubed.

Try running some of this -> http://www.auto-rx.com/

cleans up engine sludge, that sounds just like what you described.
