Ignition problems
Hello
I drive a 91 civic Dx, and I think I got a bit of an ignition problem. The part where I put the key. So today when I got in and went to turn the key, it cranks fine and then it catches. I then let go of the key and the car turns off...Im like okay...let me try again and same thing it turnsover and then the car turns off. Then I look and a few seconds go by my idiot lights turn on meaning the battery, oil pressure and my cel which turns off when the main relay shuts off.
I then turn the key again and it turnsover and stays on throughout my whole commute. It did the same thing again today when I went to go leave...I then try to start it at my house and it starts and turnsover on first try.

Re: Ignition problems
pretty easy to change out, just like 2 screws on the column and the ring holding it together, then you can get to it quite easily, just grab one from a junkyard, not sure what all ones are compatible, but just find a lower mileage compatible honda, take it off and rotate it to see if everything feels tight in it.

if you're really thrifty you can take it apart and clean the contacts up and put new dielectric grease in just dont lose the tiny springs....they tend to fly across the room on disassembly

Re: Ignition problems
picture isn't showing, don't know the part, but yeah you don't need new key, and it all depends on what is worn or what's going on to whether you can fix the existing one, if the assembly is just old and worn and not staying engaged in position then probably not, if it's loose contacts or just dirty then yeah, after so long the grease and oils in small moving assemblies like that sludge up and catch small particles. You could disassemble and re grease/oil (depending on what is in there, i'd assume dielectric grease) and tighten all the terminals, may fix it with spending only a couple bucks on lube.
