Default intermittent spedo

1993 Honda Civic Del Sol. Manual, d16z6 with 70xxx.

For the last month or so my speedo would work sometime and other times it wouldn't. When It did work it was working right then would glitch and fall to 0Mph.

It almost seems like a ground or wire is the problem. Sometimes it will fall to 0mph then If im going 45mph It will go to 45mph. Shortly after it will be falling back to 0mph then it gets power again then goes back up.

For weeks it will work fine with no problems then the next week its not working at all. Also my car started throwing the vss code 17 But it never stays on it's only been on 3 times even tho my speedo works and then doesn't constantly.

So does anyone have any ideas to check. I was going to pull the vss and look at it and clean the connector. But I'm also wondering where the ground is for the spedo and the wire going to the cluster for the speedo to make sure they are in good working order.

Also it seems like every time I tinker on something or mess with the wiring harness under my intake manifold it makes the speedo work more or less.

Sorry If I rambled on. This is the short version. My speedo is working sometimes. I need to find where the wires are for it and the VSS or what color they are. Thanks in advance

Default intermittent spedo

If its an electrical 3 wire vss its very easy to check<br /><br />I would first pull out the cluster and check the connections on the back. <br /><br />I had the same problem with my rpm stack and it ended up being the contact points on the back of the cluster where the connector plugs into <br /><br />Did the exact same thing yours is doing

Corroded pins in the VSS connector is a common problem. Some people simply replace the connector with one from a junk yard.

I'm going outside to pull the cluster and check the pins on my vss now. I'll see if it helps. Might go to the junk yard and get a couple connectors as well to try that. They are only a couple bucks used.

Any ideas why i'm getting a vss code 17. When I shut my car off its gone and wont come back for a while. Could it be because if the connectors corroded its not getting signal so the computer thinks somethings wrong.
