which turbo kit?
I would think your choice in turbo would completely depend on your desired goals. If you just want a mild boost and aren't looking for huge numbers, then any carb legal kit should be good, depending on the components. If you want serious power, you'll want to go custom. Why do it twice?
If you're a beginner FI'er, like myself, I'd get the Greddy kit. If you're pretty experienced, you should build your own kit. Obviously, the Greddy won't have as much power as a custom, but it would still be good to start off with something mild, and is already CARB Legal.
As was previously mentioned, decide on your goals and what you would like to do in the car. If you're building a drag car, custom. If you're building an auto-x car you'd want a small turbo for less lag. If its a show car, you'd probably want to spend as less as possible.
If you just want some kick in your car, go with the GReddy kit. It's spools quick and best of all, it's CARB legal.
If you want to make serious power and plan to build later on, go with a Custom Turbo kit. It costs alot of $$, but ya know the saying "You get what you pay for."
I was gonna get a GReddy kit myself, but decided to go all out and get a custom kit. I plan to push 350-400wHP later on. That made me decide to go with a Custom pieced kit.

You can also get different kits, even if you don't want to use the greddy. http://www.full-race.com/turbokits.html for example
