Running no cat - 2nd O2 sensor CEL - fix for it
I can't find the thread as to where we were discussing this already (actually I believe there were multiple threads)...
Anyway, I was told that by pulling up the second oxygen sensor up inside the cabin, plugging it in and wrapping it in aluminum foil, this would take care of the CEL. I did so, reset the ECU, and I still have the light on. And I double checked that the CEL wasn't for something else, but it was a code 65 still...
BTW, what's the significance of the aluminum foil? I'm not too clear on what purpose it serves..
Anyway, now that this isn't working, how can I take care of it?

Put your cat back on....there's no easy way around a secondary O2 sensor other than converting to OBD1. So if you don't plan on backdating your ecm any time soon just put the cat back on. Pulling the secondary O2 sensor and wrapping it with foil only works for certain OBD2's not all. The foil is there to insulate the O2 sensor from the elements and to keep it warm as if it were still in the cat. The O2 sensors operate on heat...if it's too cold then that might throw you a code.
