o2 sensor CEL light
Okay, so about a year and a half ago I put in a "high flow cat" into my 99' Civic Ex and about 15 minutes of running the car crapped out a CEL. Apparently it was a o2 sensor low voltage from the sensor that was originally in the center of the stock cat (code 63 if I'm not retarded). Now I'm pretty sure the reason for this is the difference in location of the o2 sensor (from the middle of the cat to before the cat about 3 inches down from sensor #2) and the ecu thinks the cat is bad. For a long time I didn't care and I drove with the CEL on. Awhile later I decided to buy an "o2 sensor simulator" from casper electronics and was told it would trick the ecu into thinking it was getting a good signal from the sensor....I installed it (no help from the "complete" instructions) and it kicked out another CEL...this time #65 (O2 sensor circuit slow response). Basically my question is, what can I do so this damn CEL light doesn't stare me in the face anymore. And before anyone suggests this, ripping out the bulb to the light is not an option....I plan on going FI and it might be a good idea to have the CEL in the future to diagnose problems. Thanks in advance for the help.

Re: o2 sensor CEL light (soundbomber)
I was told that Honda never made it where the o2 sensors were directly bolted to the cat'. They made it where it bolted on the piping just before the cat'. I would get the CEL everytime in the morning or on cold starts. Also, I was told that Honda's ECU is very picky about o2 sensors. On my girlfriends civic and on mine, aftermarket o2 sensors were a pain in the ***. But we had to spend lots of money to finally figure that out. We ended up going OEM. Good luck!

No, theyre made to go in the cat.
Shouldve tried a denso o2 sensor - cheap and decent (honda parts).
Ive read that wrapping the sensor tip w/ al foil works w/ test pipes...maybe thats worth a try. Afterall, it'd be free

have a bung, drilled and welded in the proper location, according to your factory cat. And stick a bolt with the proper washer in the other hole. I would personally buy a new o2 after doing this, the old one is probably saturated in carbon by now.

the problem is that the o2 sensor needs to be in the middle of the cat in order to be in the factory location...this cat is pretty much like a straight through muffler.

if nothing else works...what the hell

I think I'm going to try the aluminum foil thing...nothing to lose. Also how cheap are the denso sensors?
Thanks for the suggestions guys.

I eMailed Honda and here's what they told me:
"Honda never made a Civic with the sensor in the converter. It should be in the pipe, thus a possible bad reading because the sensor is designed to be in the pipe away from the heated brick."
Anyway, just got my cat' put in with the o2 bung on the piping just before the converter. I passed California SMOG with a charm.
My knock levels for both 15 and 25 mph were 0.0X's all the way with a JDM B16A (stock).

I totally agree with this.
