GLASS Sunroof for a 4G Lude?!
I've always hated the metal sunroof panel, and I really hate that Honda never made it an option on the 4th Gen Preludes... well, here's right back atcha Honda! (Did this in about 30 minutes, BTW!)

Enjoy!

Enjoy!
Yeah, I'll share... Hehehe
The glass is off of a 5th Gen Lude. We had one laying around our shop. Was actually pretty simple. The mounting tabs and studs had to be modified a bit and the bump-stop tabs removed. Also, if you don't shim the whole assembly before installation, the glass will actually protrude up and out of the sunroof hole when the sunroof is closed. Other than that, it went together pretty easily. Sure there's no sliding panel, and the sun shines in. But that's the point of a glass roof. If that's not what you want, then keep the stock metal panel.

The 4G and 5G sunroof openings are the same size. However, the way they mount to get sliders/rails is SLIGHTLY different. Not too hard to modify, actually. Also, like I said before, the 5G glass sat a bit higher than the roof-line after normal installation. Therefore, I had to shim the sunroof assembly downward slightly. I would imagine by mounting a 4G metal panel into a 5G assembly, you would have the opposite effect, and would have to shim the actual metal insert itself...
Hope that made some kind of sense!

Thanks! I have not had a chance to road test it yet other than pouring a little water over it... My car is kind of in a trasition at the moment:

But, I can say that the seal on the glass panel seals just as tight as the stock metal panel seal. And, as long as your sunroof drains are working, I don't think there should be any problems with leakage!

so bascially there is no more metal things on the back holding the rubber seal on? I can't imagine it will stay on there for a long period of time...
The rubber moulding is a part of the glass panel... trust me, it's not going anywhere!

OEM or AFTERMARKET? I was under the impression that the US 4G's didn't have that option? There's no part numbers for 4G GLASS parts that I'm aware of? Could you post a pic inside and out, please?
I've never SEEN a 4G in person with a glass roof (That doesn't mean that they don't EXIST, I guess. If they do, it's a rare thing to see one - at least around HERE.) So for me, it's just as easy to swap one out like I did rather than going around looking for one, that's all...

Glass sunroof's were NOT an option on the 4th gen.
Anyone that has one on their car has a custom fit piece. Like RHD's.
BTW, best of luck with the whole RHD conversion. It's a bitch.

Yes the 5th gen Prelude DOES have a sliding sunshade.
Anyone want to buy my complete 5th gen sunroof?

Hehehe. Thanks for the offer, but I don't think that I'll be selling the metal panel just yet...

I'm not sure what the exact wieghts were... I can wiegh the metal one that I took out and let you know what I come up with, and I CAN say that the glass was a bit heavier. But not by too much, though.
I'll be looking at the broken 5G sunroof that we have at the shop to see if there's any way at all to retro-fit the sliding sun-shade the next time I get a chance to play around with it, so stay tuned! (I'm doubting it would transfer over, as it's a part of the 5G sunroof rail system and not the glass itself... we'll see)

Might sound dumb but ive been trying to figure out how the hell to get to the sunroof mouting bolts and such. Do you have to take the interior roof off or what? I didnt feel like tearing it all apart and finging out it wasnt necessary thanks.
Looks great!!! I will do the same in my lude!!! This will resolve the problem with my rusty metal sunroof.
By the way, it seems the most rusty part is a sunroof in my case... it is a 12 years old car...
