You'll want this tool and a hose to pressurize the chamber to keep the valves up.

$77.77 from http://www.thetoolwarehouse.net

This is the actual page. http://www.thetoolwarehouse.net/shop/SP-91400.html

Make sur you plug the oil return holes in the head so the retainers don't drop into your block/oil pan.

ITR springs and retainers only give you 0.5mm more lift capability with but not much more pressure. So you still should limit your rpm's close to stock limits.

WORD--------- Rocket knows what he is talking about. I did ZC valve seals & cams without taking heads off. Will be doing Seals, springs and cams on a B16 as soon as I get mine in from Rocket.

We use a compression check tool to fill the cylinders with air then use the Valve spring compressor. almost as easy as with the head off

Be careful not to drop the retainers into the head. It may fall down to the oilpan through the holes on the head.

When I do this WITHOUT access to air, I use a couple of shoestrings tied together. Put the piston at BDC and insert the shoestrings, tie the end somewhere so the whole piece doesn't accidently fall in the cylinder. Slowly bring the piston up to TDC for that cylinder until you feel the pressure of the strings against the valves, filling the cylinder between the valves and piston, and you are good to go. I'd be careful with the tool that Rocket suggested, I had a Snap-On and broke the the pivot arm so now I use one that I made. My .02

excellent, thanx for the information. ok i have one more question though, would it be a better idea to just leave in the stock gsr springs/retainers, and just install my 00'itr cams? obviously i would still keep the rev-limit stock, and from what i hear the itr cams stop pulling near 8.2k anyways.........

the whole reason i ask about installing the springs/ret, is the fact that i bought them as a package deal with the itr cams.......... maybe i will just sell the spring/ret set.

you can run itr cams on stock gsr valvetrain from what i understand an gather. i ran skunk2 stage ones cams which are more agressive on my stock valvetrain fine. just throw those cams in there, an dont worry about the valvetrain since your not going over redline or stock limits anyway.

yeah i do it all the time with the snap on tool. it's easy and jsut use a strong magnet to pickup retinaers.

if oyu're going with ITR or CTR cams, just add inner springs to the exhause side of your head, no need to be upgrading to ITR springs/retainer.

there's some good info being shared here, but one thing hasn't been covered: how or what do you do to seal the oil passages on the head? how do you plug these holes up? what do you use?

Just plug them up with some towels or something. It doesn't matter as long as nothing falles down the passages.
