I'm going to P&P my B16 head. It's gonna be running ITR Cams and I'm only planning to redline at 8,400. My question is, how strongly is it recommended to replace the valve springs and retainers? Is it okay if I use the B16 springs and retainers? Would you guys trust Type R retainers, or should I get skunk2/crower retainers? Any info would help, thanks.
if your going to spend the money to rev a couple rpms higher, you might as well do it right and get either portflow, skank2, or itr springs / retainers for a couple bucks more. Alot of times people sell the whole valve train (ITR) for 5-700 with springs / retainers included
hth,
hth,
Is it a 1st gen b16 head?
With itr cams, I would at least put itr v springs and retainers in it especially if it is a 1g head. You might well do it right while it is apart. I hate to say it, but if you are serious, then you should go ahead and do valves and seals too (I wish I did).
I have '01 itr cams, outer v springs, portflow inner springs, and ti retainers in my b16 head.
Somewhere there is a good article/write up on matching v springs to camshafts. I'll have to try and find that.
