PLEASE help problem with jrsc install civic si
i just installed my jrsc on my 2000 civic si w/77,xxx miles and it went good i followed the instructions best i could. i also installed a jr map controller. no problems. all mods i have is aem intake, obx fuel rail, comptech exht, dc header. well any way i went to drive it for its first test drive. evarything sounded fine, idled great, no engine codes, what seemed to be no problems. i drove it around for like an hour, getting on it and seeing what she will do. i was on my way home and coming down the off ramp and she died and would not start. so i waited and tried to start her again and it would just crank, sounding like it wanted to start. so i waited longer and tried it again and with giving it some gas it started. so i got home. well today i looked at it an it will start when you give it some gas. but not idle. I noticed a small amount of smoke coming from a plug in the intake (where i had nitrous hole for the nozzle) so i pulled off the hose that lead to the valve cover and smoke is comming out of it a steady stream. i do not know if this is normal for a jrsc . please help!!!

are you saying smoke is coming out on a steady stream FROM the valve cover?

i bought the kit used and the guy told me it was an 8 pound pulley. he said it was on his stock si with no problem. Yes its a steady stream of smoke.
no i did nothing with timing. what should i do?

yes i am pretty sure . I did it just like instructions told me to. i sodered and shrink wrapped all connections. besides i worked fine when i first drove it for awhile.

Damn bro i think you blew your motor, do that compression test. Smoke from the valve cover breather the way you describe it is never a good thing. The car still starts so its probably not that bad, but it sounds like you did some damage to a piston or two. were you on stock injectors and fuel pump as well?

you cannot run a JRSC without some way of retarding the timing. did you read the instructions? they say at the end to retard it. either at the distributor, or buy the JR BTC. anyways sounds like it may be too late now, especialy if you're using an 8lb pulley i can only imagine how much it was detonating. live and learn i guess but forced induction isnt something you just bolt on and go. the fueling and timing must be altered from stock.

he's right. sorry but you aren't going to hear any positive feedback or fixes now. The steady stream of smoke from the valve cover is most likely your motor oil and your rings are probably gone. Check you motor oil level as it should be extremely low. The motor dies while its coasting or idling because the motor oil vapors from the valve cover is killing the A/F mixture. You have the same exact symptom my buddy's SC B18C had, that motor got a crap compression test results and got ripped apart for new rings.

You can in fact run 8 PSI on any honda with stock timing so long as you have the JR Map Controller. While the map controller instructions specifically say "near stock timing", this is only for legal ramifications. I've ran 18* timing on 8 PSI on 91 octane with the map controller for well over a year now with NO problems.

True but not all motors are the same, besides i'm sure you have a better fuel setup.
