some guy in my home town swears that his d16y8 tranny has a stock l.s.d. Could this be true?

he is right....he's full of poop....maybe aftermarket, KAZZ, or Quaife, but not factory, gearing is identical.

The biggest difference I can think of is the z6 has aluminum shift forks instead of steel. I think the y8 shift a little better for this reason.

as others have said, z6 and y8 are the same. only diff is y8 has steel shifter forks instead of aluminum, so y8 is a little sturdier.

Z6 2nd gear = 1.900
Y8 2nd gear = 1.909

that is NOT a typo!

I split down a Y8 case just to be sure. I figured it was a typo in the factory service manual.
