Default How are SI B16a2 Turbo-ed?

I keep hearing that SI motors are no good when Boosted. I was told that the torque was weak. I keep hearing about SI's running 14's - 15's with 8-10psi. Can anyone tell me different or same?

I am lookin' for a motor right now and I plan on boostin' it. Found a good deal on SI. Should I do it is the question.

My buddy Twistedhatch who is a honda-tech member also had a SIR 2 Stock motor fully tuned with hondata on 11psi and his car ran 12.94 while it blew up. But the thing was that he launched it at like 7500 RPM's on 24x8 Bogart's and it about died because it didn't have enough torque to pull it outta the hole. Where as his stock B20 ran exactly the same thing with about 50 less hp but it had enough torque to get off the line. So you can see the 2 differences but the more torque you have the better you are gonna be.......................

ya it was the jdm sir 2 170hp.........as far as i know there wasn't any detonation, at least that you could see on the plugs, it was tuned at like 11.8psi wich is right below what the stock map will read and it ran perfect........i think it was just too much pressure for the stock pistons, it cracked a ringland or something, the thing still runs just smokes a tad......

Keep posting please. I am still tryin to figure out if i should just buy an SI motor now (jdm b16 170hp) or just save a lil' more and get a b18c1 (jdm gsr). No matter what it's going to be turboed in a few months afterwards.

I just don't know if i should just used the saved money from the B16 and use it towards a turbo kit.

what was your setup. i keep reading about how you are making this amount of power and i am beginning to think that my motor is fucked up or that i have a weak link in my setup. I made 241/172 at 7lbs in a stock block gsr with skunk2 manifold, revhard kit, and greddy sp exhaust hondata and 550's. Do you think the exhaust is ******* me up??

Here is my dyno sheet:

check compression
check plugs

Granted this is a full-out drag car, but I ran a 10.985 @ 124.68
with a stock block, stock head b16....
it dynoed at 300 whp & 201 ftlbs... at 11psi
since then I have raised the boost to 13psi and ran the 10.9....

hope this helps
