Default another skunk2 camber kit story

ok , ive been noticing a bad poping noise in my left front suspension , i thought it was my drivers side axle , but it wasnt i guess..... it got wors and finally i went to check it out . i had reciently put poly front control arm bushings on so i thought that i might have also left somthing loose or what not. well i notice my skunk2 ball joint boots are blown to **** . apon closer inspection of the right front in comparrason to the left , the left ball joint was sticking up much much higher than the right. well if you dont know about skunk2 balljoints . there held onto the plate by a snap ring , well that snap ring came loose so the ball joint was just moving up and down probably 3 to 4 inches , i was ******* pissed!!!!!!!!!! so i put poly boots on there from my hyperflex kit and retightened everything down , and next paycheck i guess ill have to buy the replacement balljoints . **** skunk2 balljoints!

thanks for letting me vent , has anybody else had this problem and how did u fix it , did skunk2 do anything about it?

i'm kinda annoyed about my skunk2 kit as well now...i just found out what the creaking noise was caused by. the material on the ends of the kit extend longer than the OEM ones by almost 1cm. it was rubbing bad enough in my wheel well and camberkit that metal is showing on both. i took them off, cut off 1/2 a cm and ground it smooth then used touch-up paint on them. noise is gone now and my sanity has somewhat come back. i'm just pissed that this happened considering it was made for EG/DC cars.....

keep us posted on what happens with your ball joints..i'll keep an eye on mine. thanks.

same ish happened to me, same popping sound as well. i called skunk about it and told them that ive heard alot of people having this problem, they said that my car must be lowered too much b/c they have not been having a problem. i must be stunna slammed to the ground fo sure y0

anyway i had to pay 60$ for a new pair of plates/balljoints... if these break im tossing the kit. but i dont have any rubbing problems as of yet(knock on wood)

Same exact problem here... the ball joints themselves aren't the culprit I don't think, it's the fact that they use shitty-*** boots that crack/tear after only a few hundred miles. After that the ball joint is left exposed and it all goes downhill from there.

My second replacement set is on order, at 68 bucks for both sides with shipping. Skunk2 will not replace them because they claim that it's because my car is too low. I call bullshit, but they won't give in and send me a free set. This time however, I'm going to be using poly ball joint boots from my ES hyperflex kit, so hopefully this set will last longer than the last two. It's getting goddamn expensive, but I don't have the stock control arms and no one else makes a kit like skunk2's (replacement A-arm) for 5th gens, as far as I can tell.

i was gonna go with skunk2's for my car but heard so many bad things about them. i ended up getting spc for the fronts and my car is dropped a lil more than 2 inches. no rubbing and no problems. and u can adjust caster as well. plus it looks and feels like a quality piece... for SPC

Hybrid: yep that's the boot that splits. As soon as that happens all the grease comes out of the ball joint and it eats itself. Hopefully you caught yours in time to just replace the boots and repack the ball joints, but mine were completely shot.

Damn! My Eg skunk2 kit is the same as the one in the pic (Ek)

Anyone have pics to post of the SPC front camber kit? I would like to see how they look in comparison to the skunk2. I think I'm going to sell the skunk2 and go with another kit.

jdmhondaparts.com is where I bought the kit. Not helpful at all from the time I bought the kit and asked a couple Q's to the time I told them about the problem.

it is probibly important to know that the new balljoints they sent are not the same design as the old ones that ripped, i dont know if it will make a difference though.

Now that you mention that I remember a thread about skunk making new covers that would not rip as easy.......

https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=281597

Most of the pics aren't working in the thread above now. Does anyone know how to identify the old ball joint covers from the new ones?

i dont have a pic of mine cuz i dont have a digi cam yet...but i found a post of a guy here who actually e-mailed the company regarding ball joints failing on other camber kits here's what he said:

Quote:
i just got one for my 2000 ex from http://www.groupbuycenter.com
I am very impressed with the quality of the camber kit. i ordered the one that replaces the front control arm and has a ball joint pressed in to it already. i asked SPC about the quality of the ball joint and they said:
"You shouldn’t have a problem with these arms. We have been selling them for about 4 years and I haven’t seen a ball joint failure come back. The people that make this arm to our specs manufacture OEM ball joints & bushings. If at some point you do wear out the ball joint they are part of our line of replacement parts. I don’t know of any ball joints that were sold as replacements for the 62010 arms. As part of our ISO-9001 program we continuously test new products, inspect & test new incoming parts and monitor product returns for problems. That is just one reason that we stand behind our products and have been so successful in the sport compact car market.

Good luck with your car!
