Has anyone made their own oil cooler kit? I'm not a fan of the OEM ones and I'd like to see other options before I shell out money for an aftermarket kit.
FYI I have a B20Z.

I searched but found nothing. Does anyone know which PermaCool or other brand (if there is one) of sandwich adapter fits a 95 GSR so I can run lines in and out to an oil cooler? I went to Jegs and I tried a PermaCool #189, #182 and #183 and they all did not seem to fit right. With #189, they said I would have to use a Ford oil filter..........that just doesn't sound like it would be good for the Integra. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

By the way, it's not uncommon for all of these adapters to run a strange filter (or actually, a common filter, like Ford). I think I remember the B&M adapter asking for a Toyota Corolla filter or something like that.

You'll want parts PER-1211 and PER - 116 if you want to relocate your oil filter. PER186 is just the sandwich adapter. They've also got good prices on the -10 AN hose and fittings, as well as an oil cooler (I went with one of their Mocal coolers).

If you go with the remote filter mount with 3/4 - 16 thread, you'll use a filter for a 300zx or 240sx.

i have the B&M unit. it's definitely not Greddy but it gets the job done. the B&M does come with a filter relocator but the nice thing about greddy is that the sandwich adapter has a thermal switch

B&M cooler are okay. You would be much better off with a quality unit like Setrab, Earls, or Fluidyne. I believe the Greddy is made by Earls. THe Greddy sandwich is a nice piece too.

1- B&M oil cooler kit
4- 1/2" NPT -> AN-10 adapters
2- 90* 1/2NPT AN-10 swivel-seal hose ends
3- straight AN-10 swivel-seal hose ends
1- 180* AN-10 swivel-seal hose end

There's a couple things I would change doing it again...but they're just me being ****. The biggest thing is I drilled and tapped the filter housing for my oil pressure sender and that forced me to loop the line in front...if the sender wasn't there the 180 could go behind and I would have a 90* on the left side of the cooler. Also, be careful and make sure that the adapter that screws to the block is seated all the way, my original one wasn't tapped all the way in and when it was tight it wasn't fully seated...big mess and a few very angry calls to B&M (but I have to admit that they made it up to me and next day air-ed a new one).

The hardest part is getting the lines to work with the tight...I mean TIGHT!!! clearances. Check out my sig and go to the webpage where I installed my cooler....it should help...also check out this thread.

How does everyone feel about using a thermostat in one of these setups? Is the drop in oil pressure an issue?

Not sure about the drop in pressure, but i guess it would be better to get a thermostat since warm ups will take a long time, and the oil need to get up to temp to lubricate the way is supposed to be. Don't you think?

That's what I was thinking, but my engine builder and some of the thoughts i've heard here are that the thermostat is just another risk. I thought maybe this one might work ok??? Anyone with this experience, maybe road racing with one?...

Sandwich Adapters



This lightweight, compact high flow sandwich plate incorporates a 180 deg. F thermostat to regulate oil flow to the cooler until the engine is properly warmed up. 1 5/16" thick with 1/2" NPT female ports.

the problem with running an oil cooler is you constantly have to be checking temperatures. if it's too cold out your oil won't heat up enough and you won't hit vtec.

jeff, i'm going to try a sandwich adapter plate much like that, just to hold a bit more oil in the system and make oil changes faster/easier (especially in winter), but i have to see if it fits with my factory oil cooler. i run the large HAMP filters, and tried one on the remote piece; it fit fine.

that Mocal plate is for use of a stock type filter location. Are you planning remoting the filter? If so, you'll need an adaptor and remote filter housing, not a sandwich plate.

u r right. mine is for remote location, so it is different, and i have the other piece on which the filter mounts. it has no thermostat. if i ever get my digicam working, i'll try to post pics.
