Default Removing air filter for racing worth it?

Hey guys the other night I saw a guy with a Turbo setup racing on the 1/4 mile without his air filter. Do you guys think its worth it? Any gains? I was thinking about doing this the next time I race and maybe put a panty hose over the tube. Thoughts?

I drove for a while without a filter...Dont ever do it...You suck something into your turbo even a small pebble your a$$ed out...Panty hose even if its clamped down with still stretch and maybe get into your turbo...If anything try like a small piece of mesh...Like from a front grille or something

i ran the mesh cover for a while,,, actually i cut my parents bedroom screen on thier window out to use on the turbo inlet!!!!! they were pissed when all the bugs started coming in and there was a perfect circle in thier screen!!!!! but anyways,, it worked for a while,,, but after time the screen started touching the turbine so use some diesel window screening,,,, its better than mesh,,,,,, and 1 pebble your assed out!!!!!!!!

Just run a Cone style filter and when you go to the track just throw the mesh on..Be careful though cuz if you have slicks or drag radials you tend to pick up alot of pebbles and rocks...

I dynoed with and without a filter and lost power without.. it was an insignificant amount, easily could have been attributed to heat soak etc... but it was enough to let me know it is not worth not running a filter

Thanks for the info. If I was going to do the Panty hose mod "Lol" I would just put it on at the track. Any other comments or dynos with/without?

What kinda Filters are u guys running with A T3\T4. Can any filter work and what filter gives u the most gains. Also where do u get your Adapters to place the Filter on the Turbo for. Im stilll running a SCREEN on my TURBO. Its a Mesh screen so nuting gets in there but im still worried bout Dust and such.

I had a old AEM intake pipe and I pretty much hacked it up and made it fit. It looked similar to the pipe that the DRAG kit comes with after everything was said and done. Any intake pipe will do as long as there are 2 elbows you can use off of it or better yet buy some u-bends and start from scratch. Hope this helps.

filters actually straighten and smooth out the airflow = more power. 'sides. removing it is a ricer mod. (no regard for reliability) feeble (and risky) attempt for miniscule increase in power IMO.

i'm running without a filter right now cause i've got a cheap little matrix filter that is pretty restrictive. running with 2 screen meshs helps my turbo spool a lot quicker than running that nasty filter. i'm gonna need to get a real filter soon...

errr we are turbo theres no such thing as smoothing out the air flow especially from the compressor side of the turbo...the air is all crammed anyways so i dont think the filter will increase HP per-se but rather have the turbo spool faster with less retriction technically...u might see better turbo response...i run no filter daily or screen..been lazy lately....probably do the screen thingy sooon...

well, the compressor may mix up the air, but at least it will have a steady stream of air feeding it. 'sides idf teh compressor really screwed up airflow that much what would be the point of using madrel bends downstream of the turbo?

OMG i didn't think this was rocket sience but i must have failed. I always thought people were aware that turbo's do not filter as they compress. If you run without a filter on the street im glad that you have no sense of money. I seriously doubt that there is enough restriction in your K&N to make you loose the slightest amount of power. I mean wouldn't it be safer to lean it out maybe say 1/4% and gain that amount of power..........................

Please please run a filter on your engine boost or no boost....... save the dirt for the hoover.

Something that never seems to come up in these "what kind/should I/whatever" air filter topics is dust. People always talk about if pebbles are sucked in, but what about airborne dust particles? They're pretty much everywhere always. At all times these will be sucked into your motor to mix in with moving parts to act like sandpaper on any moving parts it gets into. Just something to think about,
