How much boost can i put and stay safe. The b20 sleeve's seems so weak, I'm afraid to raise the boost. Right now, I boost 10psi ,and little creep around 13-14psi MAX...
I'm staying rich, and conservative timing... but even with that, is it dangerous for the sleeves at higher psi ?
(i have forged pistons and rods 9.2:1 CR)

no one use b20 block with boost ?

 

I ran 8bls on my B20Vtec for a while with no problems, Then it pinged on the dyno while tuning and it cracked two of the sleves from top to bottom.
With no detination you should be fine, keep it rich!

 

The B20 sleeves have proven themselves to be very weak. Even with proper tuning, I've seen them spider crack with n/a motors and mild compression. They just don't seem to have the same strength once you bore them over. I'd keep the boost down...lower than what you are running...

 

If you're not gonna resleeve it, blockguard it. I remember someone here posting pics of their cracked B20 block after seeing boost. I took the pics to my engine builder and he told me that if there was a blockguard in place, that probably wouldn't have happened. I'm having a blockguard made for my B20 right now. In the past, i've used a blockguard in my turbocharged D16Y8 with stock sleeves.. boosted as high as 24psi on the street, and never cracked any sleeves.. I am a firm believer in blockguards

Just get a B18 and resleeve and bore it out if you want 2.0 Liters. You can probably pick up a B18 block for around $200 and get it sleeved for $690-$720.
It will end up costing as much as a B20 and will have stronger sleeves. And also buy my pistons/rods to go along with it

I cracked my B20 sleeves and a lot of people that I know of are in the same boat as I am.

 

let me remind you that most honders cant handle very much boost...that is on a stock bottom end, if i were you i would keep it at around 10lbs, and o yeah that one pic of that blown b20...he was boosting 16lbs on a stock bottom end , just be smart, keep it rich, and make sure you minimize detonation (sorry for the spelling)

 

b20 sleeves are the weakest b series sleeves.period!

Ok it seems the b20 sleeves are weak, but if you put good tuning in it, maybe they can support 15-17psi ??
I want to try, but... i already hit 14psi... with creeping... i was at 10 psi ,and some times i hit 14psi in 4th on the 1/4.
I want to boost 14-15psi steady... i will retard the timing and put a lot of gaz i think.

 

no no, i dont think you get it...you're running too much boost already, according to a dino tuna and some other people that have seen the b20 sleeves fail at lesser boost levels (even atmospheric)

 

i just think all you guys are risking it too much. i'm planning on boosting my stock b20b but i'm not gonna go anythin pass 8lbs. i'm thinking about 6lbs for daily driving and 8lbs for weekends. the most i'll go is 10lbs, nuthin over that!

just depends how much u want to risk it. obviously u know theres a risk by boosting high on stock sleeves and that risk is larger with the B20's vs. B18's. But then again, boosting a motor period is risky and even boosting a built motor is risky too. Just tune it right and set your own limits. the lower the boost the less chance u crack a sleeve.
