Default B20 Sleeves are NOT strong

I pulled off my head tonight to see why it the motor overheated and why it would die out at idle:

Just 16 PSI cracked it. B20 sleeves are probably the weakest B series sleeves.

I'm going to make some phone calls tommorow for GE Sleeves

How unfortunate of you to find out this way , how could I prevent myself from being subjected to this in the future, I am going NA in a b20z with a goal of 210 whp? Any preventive help to create stronger sleeves would be appreciated?

Silly aluminum blocks. I hate em. Oh well, when you deal with the majority of imports you have to deal with it, either sleeve the b20 for anything over 12-13 psi, or buy a miata Iron block, 21psi, new rods, new 9:1 pistons = love. Good luck with your woes.

umm how can crv sleeves suck? CRV has thicker sleeves then a LS motor. IF your runining at 16psi at stock buttom end, I bet you any honda sleeve wont handle that much power.

JUST 16psi ?

if you throw "JUST 16psi" at any honda block ( whether VTEC ot not ) it WILL Break . most guys know that runnin 12 psi or so is about the max that stock sleeved honda blocks can take .

So next time throw "JUST 10-12 psi" and see what happens

DAMN 16 psi on a stock bottom end is crazy foo!!You should have "just" ran straight aviation fuel too and then wondered why the f*cker melted down!!!! I think in this case it would be operator error not bunk sleeves!!

16psi(stock)=
16psi(ge sleeves)=

to shed some light on tha actual title of this thread, here is an article that was posted in another thread by someone else... (cant remember either!)

it is an article from Automotive Engineering, January 1996 on the B20 sleeve process (pretty technical though...)

http://dwolsten.tripod.com/articles/jan96a.html

HTH provide some facts...

judgin by the pics, looks like u had inconsistent burn. cyl 2 &3 look "clean" but cyl 1 & 4 look dirty. most likely the cause of the cracking was due to detonation, my guess pre detonation. but like already stated 16psi is pushin it anyways.

no - not a moron, just adventurous:

"I'm keeping it non VTEC and gonna try to push HP figures AND torque both at the same time. Maybe try to break some records =P"

on stock sleeves, 239WHP was a good start...

Whats up with the 16psi thingy. I have ran 12psi on a bone stock B18b daily and at the track 17psi. It's all about the tuning. You can run 20psi on a stock b18b. I've seen it before. Yong post my video when i pushing like 17psi.
