blocks and boost
which is more worth it to beef up for boost? i have a B18A and B20B i will be using a kraftwerks S/C and GSR head Hondata S300 and YTBD internals... just looking for insight on which of these two blocks would be better to build for relability
thanks in advance

Re: blocks and boost
both are good blocks, reliability is more dependent on how well you build it and what components you use. In the end its always a science project and a piece of metal you hope holds together haha

Re: blocks and boost
ok so has anyone had any good or bad with either block? the B18 is in the rex the B20 is in the garage, the B18 runs but runs like *** The B20 came from japan, i will not be sleeving either block (despite how much i want to) just rods bearings pistons on the bottom end

Re: blocks and boost
I have a question for this thread. Are the factory sleeves the same thickness? Or are b20 sleeves thinner because the are already 84mm from the factory?

Re: blocks and boost
i constantly hear people say the B18 has seperate sleeves the B20 is a one piece and therefore awful at high rpms... but honestly i dont know who is right

Re: blocks and boost
What comp are you planing to use? that SC will like a high comp setup like for a n.a build. Sleeves to beef up the motor is ideal if you plan to boost more than say 15psi, I believe the max on that blower is around 15 psi i could be wrong but I'm pretty sure it maxes out around there. You might be able to save some money on the sleeves for something else like cams ect if you plan to boost under that, iv seen stock GSR's make around 320+ hp on about 14 psi with that SC.. Now stock for stock the LS is better it has thicker sleeves. B20 are good for the TQ but the sleeves are known to crack easier under boost.

Keep the torque under 275wtq and either one should last quite a while. Im not surebhow much torque the stock b20 sleeves can take but stock b18 sleeves can handle 300wtq before they start splitting

Re: blocks and boost
I have tuned quite a few Kraftwerks "B" series packages... most are stock internally and a handful have been rod and piston engines. It is likely that a CRVtec would survive long term with a conservative tune at lower boost levels. I caution you that turning down a KW kit to 8 psi would make it a bit "laggy" in the low and mid range... and peak power would certainly be lower than one would expect. Remember that boost pressure is a by-product and not a target: Your focus should be on blower speed with a specific engine displacement and redline. A purpose built engine for a KW kit would maximize your HP potential and larger displacement is another benefit.
Also, keep an eye out here (Honda-Tech, not hijacking your thread) for my own personal KW build thread... I think you will find it quite interesting.
