Motorola map sensor question
Finished soldering up my wires, heat shrinked and gooped the ends to water proof it.

Now I'm curious, this thing is so damn small, how is a vacume line going to stay on this thing at say 20psi? It just seems to me it will blow off, the nipple is small and not barbed.
I was wondering should I epoxie a small 2-3" vacume line onto it and at the end of the line a barb fitting to attach to my vacume source this way there would be no blowing anything off because correct me if I'm wrong but if I blow this off wont my boost spike like crazy and go ka boom.
Also why do people by a 2.5 bar when the 4 bar is 2$ more? I know the obvious is that there never going to go over 20 psi, but is there idle differences or anything wrong about running a 4 bar at say 16 psi,

You could use a small zip tie...
Personally, I don't like the motorola 4 bar due to the sensor's size.
I prefer using a 2.5 bar as it is a little larger. I also still like using gm 3 bars.

You can hook it up to +5v, then measure the voltage between ground and the output wire. This will be the voltage it puts out at ~14.5 psi absolute (0psi in your car). A 2.5bar will show ~1.87 volts, a 4bar will show ~1.22 volts.
The reason for using a 4bar for a 20psi setup is because 'typical' sensors suck once you go past the middle 2/3 of their range. Freescale sensors are supposed to be very linear from ~23" Hg to just below their maximum. There's also the ability to add more boost columns just in case they see a boost spike.

If your vacuum line popped off during a boosted condition the ecu would provide fuel from the atmospheric load mappings which would cause an instant lean condition (not good).
It will not cause a boost spike, boost is not controlled by your map sensor.

They do make small frame 2.5 bar map sensors.Some ebay sellers sell them.I only sold the 3 and 4 bar small frame since there a pita to use.
I attach a small piece of hose to the line and just epoxy it on too as well as the wires.Then just use one of those hose connector pieces

Thanks for the responses. I just figured if I popped the vacume line off the map it would be like poping a vacume line off my wastegate.
I guess I will just glue a little line with a barbed fitting to this and make it work.

PIN 2 = RED
PIN 3 = BLACK
PIN 4 = WHITE
These colors according to the instructions go to the following factory map wire colors as follows below.
RED = Yellow w/white or red stripe OEM
BLACK = Green w/white stripe OEM
WHITE = White w/yellow stripe or Red w/green stripe OEM

have you guys considered the motorolla 3 bars? I have one uninstalled that is housed in a stock map sensor case, and have tuned one on a friend's cars setup in the same fashion and it worked great. I will be replacing my 2.5 bar motorolla soon for the one i have uninstalled once i go for more boost.

That is the #1 best way to utilise the SOP-8 Motorola 2.5+ bar MAP sensors, such as the one the OP posted a picture of. It's a PITA to clean the internals out of a MAP casing with hand tools, so skip right to the chase and beg/borrow/steal access to a drill press. With drill press they take 15 minutes to hollow out + prep.
I've been doing it for a couple years now, but the idea hasn't caught on like wildfire yet and you can still snake people at the races, "you're only running a stock MAP"

The projected pricing has not been officially anounced, it will not be in the price range of cheaper gm 3 bar map sensor kits. (It will be more expensive.)

I'm gunna hollow out a oem map sensor just so I can 'snake people at the track', haha. I'm still kinda pissed off that anyone even sells these small frame map sensors. The nipple is so damn small its almost pointless and I sure don't trust it. I guess thats why it was on sale.
The small nipple is annoying, yes, but when you hollow out your MAP sensor you can ream the OEM housing's internal port a little bigger, allowing the Motorola SOP-8's nipple to make a tight interference fit. A tiny dab of epoxy to hold it in place, and something stuffed in the case to ensure the Motorola part doesn't pop out - I use a bit of wood with foam lining.
