People have been telling me that I can't run a 4bolt exhuast housing wth a cast manifold?

I coudlnt understand the reason why this is not possible.

I do want to keep AC though.

Any light on this subject is greatly appriciated.

The cast manis are desgned to be used w/ a 5 bolt turbo. On a DOHC you can't turn the turbo w/ the compressor on the passenger side using a 4 bolt turbo, it would never bolt to the head due to the turbo hitting the block. 5 bolt housing is different.
(On a SOHC you can use a 4 bolt turbo and cast mani)

 

i have a ugr cast manifold + silver surfer turbo

if i remove my accessories, i would more than fit a 4" DP!

I'm wondering because I'm trying to decide what route I want to go (cast or tubular manifold) Thanks.

 

4 bolt and 5 bolt exhaust housing turbos are differently shaped.

most cast manifolds are designed to be used with 5 bolt exhaust housings.

i have a custom built turbo with a cast manifold.
i still have Ac and PS.

i made a spacer to bring the turbo closer to the front of the car so everything clears.

The 5 bolt housing is just shaped differently than the 4 bolt. In most cases it's really not a big deal, but when using a cast manifold (Blox, UGR, whatever) then it is. The compressor side won't clear at all on a 4 bolt setup.

This is the best side angle shot I have on this computer of a 5 bolt housing.
(It is a .63A/R Turbonetics housing)


Same setup w/ an SC61 E cover (the webbing has not been notched on this block, it would need to be notched to clear a turbo this size)
