I love this thread

well I'm new ...and I've been practiceing on my migpak 10 with fluxcore...how am I doing (pics below)

Sometimes I feel like chocking on all the **** that flys up using the fluxcore...if I get the mig attachement will the gas welding be cleaner?

Also My eyes get tired with a #10 so I've been wearing sunglasses + the mask with a #10 which worked perfectly. will a 12 or higher be better?

Looks ok for fluxcore, theres no real good welding with that ****, looks like popcorn and is pretty weak. A gas attachment - making it a real mig welder would do wonders. looks like you have good control.
As far as your helmet, which one do you have ? your eye should'nt get tired/sore at all. raise the darkness setting up a few, and get that gas attcahment

the helmet is just a regular helmet not the auto ones so I have to manualy flip it down. With a 10 my eyes get real tired.

ok... check this out.. now had this been a Welding and fab forum.. i would of created a new post.. however its not.. so here ya go..

one day in constand efforts to gain more room in my garage, i fabed a 18X18 inch plate that will hold tranny's on a engine stand.

even though its a cheasy 110 flux core weld, it got the job done...

painted..

and then finished...

so whatcha think?

I am doing the same thing when i get back from college, but mine will extend to the rear "T" part of the stand, and will have sides on it, for when oil drips, bolts drop, etc...

you guys are gonna want to tilt the pan slightly so that all the oil goes towards the hole. Just a thought, so you won't have to tilt the stand.

I see those MIG welders that dont use gas, what kinds of materials can those weld? I heard that if you want to weld steel you need the type of MIG that uses gas. Is that true? I am a newb welder and I wanna know what I should buy to start with.
