I have an H22, and i have everything i need to make my manifold, including the 90* elbows from the Full-Race ProStreet manifold, and they use TIG to make their mani's and my uncle has a MIG welder, and i was wondering if it is mig welded really well, could it hold up as good as a tig. thanks for the input in advance.</TD></TR></TABLE>
just different techniques. If someone is a good welder with mig, and another not so good with tig, the mig will be better. Tig is better in the consideration that you can controll the heat better, and mig tends to heat up a larger area. Truthfully, i have hardly ever seen experienced welders welds fail, especially on something that doesn't support much weight such as a header or mani, even if its holding a turbo. You have to understand that the weld is much stronger than the material itself. The material will fail before the weld does. That is as long as the proper material is being used, like mig on steel. MIG on cast iron, bad bad bad news. Crack galore.

that epoxy is god. Makes JB weld look like a little bitch. i really am a big fan of all of POR-15's stuff, everything that i have used of theirs is terrific. You can mix that epoxy, put it in that hole, and drill and tap it. If you feel unsafe about the threads themselves holding up, which i am not, you could always helicoil them and the stainless steel threads with never fail once they are locktited in their.

Also, Lincoln Welder is coming my way soon. The Invertec V205 Tig welder. 110 and 220 supplies can be used for that. Perfect for my situation. Plus its light, and 38 pounds is nice on a cart as opposed to a 125lb beast. I can't wait to be showing all you guys up in a few months........

Hey man, thanks for the reply. Sorry i just have to recap this. So what you are saying is that if the MIG welds are really good, they will work just fine? The material is 314 or 316 stainless if it matters. so if the mig will work, i will go ahead and go with that, thanks again.

Excellent machine...make sure you have the power to support it though. You need a 220v outlet that can deliver up to ~60 amps. It does not come with a power cord, so you will need to fab one up.

you have to use stainless wire.. i heard its solid or some ****.. its a special wire. its silver not the gold stuff.
if you do use the regular wire.. it could break later on down the road.

my dad runs a huge cnc mill at our shop, im sure the welder wont take more power than it so it should work here. and dont worry it wont be my first time to make electrical wires for welders and that sort of stuff.

Like I said above when I was talking about a speech I'm going to do...I plan to try to video tape the puddle with a shade over the video camara. I just thought of a new question: Think the light could damage the camara?

I think that is a real possiblity. maybe if you had a manual aperature on the camera you could stop it down as far as possible. with an auto aperature its going to open all the way up before you strike and arc and that means lots of light at the instant you strike the arc until the camera can respond and close the aperature down.

think of orange couty choppers, they video welding there, but their cameras are way more expensive than anything any of us own most liekly, and they still cant get that close to the weld, i think youre out of luck in that department.
****, that sucks. I think everyone would love to see the puddle in action. If it was my own video camara I'd probably go for it...but it would be a friend taping with his
You guys think even with the a helmet shade over the lense it would still get messed up? I would put it on before I strike the arc

honeslty i don't know for sure, its probably no worse than trying to tape the sun. You need to call someone who knows for sure.
If you seriously want to find out you could try talking to someone at miller about how they did it in their videos. Or even try asking people at http://www.hobartwelders.com I'm sure there is someone on there with some kind of experiance in what you are trying to do.
Wooooo Woooooooo!!!!! TIG! ...im welding up a custom exhaust for our Porsche DE car. Its full of 2.5", mandrel bent, stainless, V-band lovin
