New Welding Thread!
Hello,
thanks for the reply people. Much appriciated!! Yeah, im leaning towards the oxy/aceteyne method due to the NO electical plug needed hehehe. Anyways, I checked the sites provided however I cannot seem to find much about oxy/acetelyn welding method. I was wondering if I can speak to a member via email directly to ask questions? Or should I just post here??
thank you again for everything...

Hello again,
I was checking ebay and came across this item.. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISA...34099 I was wondering if something that size tanks 20cu ft oxygen tank and a 10cu ft acetelyene tank would be good enough or is something bigger recommended??? My goal is to be able to fabricate a exhaust manifold, exhaust piping and etc...
Thanks again in advance...

donty buy that little kit... going to the oxygen store is a pain in the butt (at least for me) and those will run out often...
the other thing I have found is that it costs about the same to fill big tanks as small ones (at least for argon) to fill my 80 it costs about $30.. to fill a 125 (more than 50 % bigger) it costs about $32
hope that helps

save up for a good mig, you wont regret it. i have an oxy/acet rig and sprung for a lincoln weld-pak 100 ($325@home depot) mainly because its easier to spot weld with. an oxy rig would produce too much heat in those cramped areas in the engine bay when im test fitting. however, 100amps is limited to about 3/16" mild steel whereas the oxy can weld much thicker depending on the tip. i can tack weld for fitting then torch it together outside - after i refill the tanks again

if you are only welding on a rare basis, it might be easier for you to rent the equipment. most welding shops do this for contractors and what not but you can as well. That way you can try different processes, ie mig, tig, oxy/acy and see which one you like best as well as what machine might be well suited to your needs or in the case of oxy/acy what size tanks you will need and if you like it.
ok get this, honda-tech has a forum for DFH (Decal Free Honda's - Function over Fashion) and with 712 threads and 8754 post thats a ratio of 12.29 posts per thread. But we have no Fabrication forum. and yet our ratio is 858 posts per thread thats 70% better and no FAB forums. o but the mods made me a jackass for
posting a pic of some of those really hot jap girls (in the Garage) in the GT500 races in japan, you know they always have umbrellas. anyways they didnt say you couldnt and they never even told me anything and they put me on the jackass level... damn mod i cant handle this 10 posts per 24hr its too restrictive... thsi is probually my last post today and its going to the WELDING THREAD !!!!!!!!!!

Damn dude that sucks but what can we do except keep this thread alive? I wish there were fab forums on here dedicated to what we do for our cars and maybe if we keep this thread alive long enough we can make that reality. For the time being though it seems we are stuck in an unorganized 30+ page mess that 95% of the people that start reading on the 1st page, they read ALL of the pages as I'll quote:

Learned a little bit, but there were a lot of good links, and some inspiration. Hopefully I'll be able to weld as well as some of you can. </TD></TR></TABLE>
fabrication tips on just a log manifold would be enough to support a forum. Help on the processes would be another and pics and projects would be another. I think alot of people interested in getting into this thread might feel intimidated because of the vast aray of talent that there is here and the fact that is 30 pages to go through. By organizing this thread it would make a lot more sense since it could attract more people onto the board and therefore more sponsors(Miller or Lincoln maybe? even cyberweld or brwelder.com would be good).
Just a few things for the mods and admins to think about. Miller already sponsers several other things why shouldn't a fabrication forum be one of them. Oh and btw don't even bring up "ask andy" because that place is beyond unorganized

Yea I like this thread, but I would probably learn more from it, IF I knew what some of the terms meant. Hey that all comes in time though.
On another note! I got my welding gear today, my tig gloves, work gloves, chipping hammer, arc welding helmet, cutting goggles, and all that jazz. I am on my way, o yes, and I get 10% discount on any welding supplies at pretty much any store in the Bay Area.
Sometimes being a student DOES pay off!

hehe yes it does! My gf pays for all of my rods and tungsten even though I have to show her what to buy and I get dirty looks all time but hey, she graduates in May so I gotta take advantage of it while I can right?

You should consider it Jason
Pics turned out great and the manifold is badass in person. If i didn't already have a SST, this would be my manifold.

The Schedule 40 pipe I use is about 40mm ID and the B series ovaled runner is about 46mm So instead of ovaling the runner I weld the inside also to flaten out the 3mm's thats left from the runner, makes the runner stronger too.

It's really not the bend that comes into slowing air , the restriction comes from a smaller size in the bend, i.e. Crush bent exhaust VS Manderal bent.
As long as you maintain the same ID throughout you'll be good.

good stuff J (HULKHB) your best work yet. although i'd be interested in that lovefab copy you were practicing with in your garage....., hate to see u cut it up for scrap, that'd be a waste.
Which do you guys think is better - the Hobart Handler 135 or the Lincoln SP135T? they are only a couple bucks different and come with the same stuff. I just want to weld exhaust and charge pipes, etc.
dont they all use pop cans lol id like to see some IC piping in a car all made of pop cans im sure someone will do it. other then the clamp smashin the can i think it would work. might even be able to get sponsored by Mountain Dew or something.

the SP135T is better....it is similar to the MM135 from miller. Unlike the regular SP135 and the handler 135, the SP135T has more amperage control. I think it's 1-2 more settings
the miller is infinite
