Default shift change assembly and interlock problem???

I got an A1 tranny that had the shift change assembly missing and the interlock was in the tranny. I got a new shift change assembly and installed it (fit perfect) when i went to install the interlock the shaft that goes into the hole of the shift change assembly does not line up correctly (off by about 1/8 inch or so). I can get it installed all the way but when it in completely its sitting at an angle and its very difficult to get it to shift gears. Could i modify the shift change assembly by drilling the hole out so that everything sits even???

Drilling a new hole will not work. Have you closed the cases and tried shifting the trans? The main case will hold the pin in the correct position. If it will not line up to close the case, something is bent or you have the wrong part. Post some pics if possible.

I haven't closed the case and tried shifting it only with the case open. I'll try closing the case and if that doesn't work I'll post some pics. Thanks
