OBX pictured has .023" runout. This is the newest version OBX.
Runout will cause a visible "wobble" while spinning the diff. Runout on this one is bad enough that it is almost binding on the VSS. Stops itself in 3 spins. Tried multiple VSS's and all the same. (runout checked with and without VSS). If this was used in a trans, final drive and diff bearing failure would soon follow.

what do you mean by runout? i have an obx diff and am having issues with it... only reason i am asking is cause Im having VSS issues, the speedo goes crazy in 4th gear... =\

That's not a problem with the differential! It could be the sensor or the wiring. Did you have any problems getting the VSS connector off when you removed it for the diff install.

Re: Part 1: MFactory LSD review
I just bought mine today for a gsr tranny w/ new diff bearings it'll be shipped out tomorrow. I actually spoke to the guy who just had his car on the cover of the april issue of honda tuning. He used it in his car and his car was making power upwards of 900+ he was very nice and super knowledgeable. I highly recommend ^bump for Mfactory!

He didn't try to sell you an autographed picture of himself did he?
I kid Steve, I kid lol.
Over 12,000 miles on my D series LSD. Pulling it sometime late this month to swap into my Y8 trans with the MFactory close gear set now that I've got it ready to be rebuilt. Will post more reviews this throughout the summer as I get more track events and some drag racing on it.

Re: Part 1: MFactory LSD review
It does not work off throttle, as no helical LSD will. I'm sure you know George, but you need a clutch type LSD if you want off throttle performance.
If you'll be at Expo this year I'd be happy to give you a ride in my car so you can see how it performs (along with the close gear set).

Ha Steve was chill, its good to talk to people that have gnarly engine builds, he gave me some good insight on my current build. But if he did send an autographed photo do you think I could sell it on ebay for a quick buck? J/K

Re: Part 1: MFactory LSD review
I knew the Quaife and OEM Honda did not work off throttle, but I did not know enough to know that no gear LSD would work off throttle.
Sorry. :-)

Re: Part 1: MFactory LSD review
The flaw on the obx unit is simply a cleanup issue which is a result in casting which is correct. I have worked for Dana Co. the past 2yrs (before my current job making cancer medication) and I made more differentials for golfcarts and off road vehicles than I could possibly could. Usually there is roughly a .02 cleanup tolerance, anymore and it would be scap in my shop. I can honestly say that looks quite a bit more than .02 non-cleanup and whomever machined it obviously wasn't checking or the tolerances at OBX are clearly too loose for this sort of product...

Re: Part 1: MFactory LSD review
OBX has no QC. The one pictured had more problems aside from the flaw on the bearing hub. Runout and ring gear bolt clearance. I was able to return it (after they had sent me two others previously, both were exchanged) less a 30% restocking fee and return shipping 3x.

I'll be rehosting all of my old pictures soon and updating the threads. To keep this on topic post a new thread about your diff or you can email me Chris@wd-r.com.
