help with LSD & Ratios query?
Hello guys,
i am new to this forum & i am running Civic EG with built sleeved B20 block with vtec head & b16 tranny. my aim is for 400whp on pump gas on low boost 12 to 14 psi. i am planning to use B16 tranny which i got off from some1, so before i plonk it in i thought i will check its internals & LSD.
Its JDM S21 Hyro tranny & has LSD stamp on it so i guess it has oem LSD, i am not sure weather its helical type like mfactory or quaife ones, hence i got some pics of it to upload, what i want to know weather the LSD pictured here is of helical type? & will it hold the power approx 400whp or should i get the Mfactory LSD.
Also i was planning to change the ratios with longer 1st & 2nd gear from Mfactory 2.7861st & 1.92nd coupled with 4.05 f.d. which will help me aid in traction & better mph trap speed. should i go for this combination or just run stock b16 ratios, i am bit confused & want to decide now before i mate this tranny to my block. any suggestions.
here are pics of stock LSD & gear set.

That is a OEM viscous LSD, not good for your usage. The FD also can't be used with anything else.
I'd go with the MFactory LSD. For 400whp I don't think the PRO 1/2 (2.786/1.900) are needed. You would probably be better off with the 3.07 1st and 4.05 FD. You can use a GSR mainshaft and 2nd gear to get the 1.900 ratio in 2nd. With 400whp and 2.786/4.05 you will likely bog out of the hole. This is all dependent on what size slicks you run, max RPM, boost by gear or not, etc.

Thanks for the heads up aquafina. If i go for mfactory LSD then i will require an ring gear as well off an non lsd transmission, as in this stock lsd the ring gear is embedded, else if i go for new f.d 4.05 or 4.7 ? As i plan to go with Slicks 24.5*9 or shd i try to get an 4.4 ring gear only? Boost will be around 17psi on pump for time being. & may be 30psi on race gas that will be after some time.
i will be running pump gas off w.g spring, & boost by gear when i plan to go for 30psi boost,
On current scenario the revs will be close to 9 to 9.5k rpm depending upon the torque curve as i have to tune the car on dyno.

Correct on the ring gear, aside from it being part of the LSD, it also uses a different bolt pattern than non-viscous differentials.
If you use a 4.4 FD on the MFactory LSD, be sure to use the countershaft and ring gear as a matched set (i.e. don't retain your stock countershaft and use a different ring gear unless it is new from Honda).
With 24.5's at 9,000 you will top 4th out at 135mph using the 4.4 FD, with the 4.05 FD 4th will top out at 146mph.

it will be very difficult for me to get a matched set, i could only arrange ring gear, what will happen if its not matched, Ring gear off non Lsd transmission b16 & mine stock counter-shaft again b16, the teeth are gonna be the same.
