Default 3rd gear syncro issues

Hey all,

I have a 94 hatch with a 95 gsr swap and ys1 transmission(im still learning all my model names and numbers so i apologize if thats not correct haha) and 3rd gear will grind a bit if i shift it too hard (by too hard i mean as fast as i can) and on a very rare occasion just randomly. Im pretty sure its a syncro problem and i wanted to change out the oil to see if it helps - what oil/oil combinations would you guys recommend for this?

Thanks in advance, im sure the answer is floating around this site somewhere but due to my lack of knowledge i figured itd be best to ask hehe

I've always used and had good luck with synchromesh. But your just prolonging the problem..... It's not gonna magically fix itself from fluid.

Just tear it down locate the problem fix it before it becomes way more expensive to fix. they are fairly easy to work on .

this.
It's cheaper to replace a worn 3rd gear brass syncro than it is to replace a chewed up 3rd gear AND the corresponding syncro

Make sure you're shift timing is correct if you're trying to shift as fast as you can.

Fluid won't fix a problem.

i definitely agree with all of you, i just dont have the time right now (60 hour work weeks and what not), i really would love to though. The tranny only has 35k on it so the more i think about it the more i doubt its a syncro and more of a user error thing haha. I just wanted to do all the basic "fixes" first before i move onto the harder and more permanent ones. Does anyone know the dimensions of that syncro by chance? id much rather make a new one than buy a gearset for way more than i want to lol

I'm confused how you would make your own syncro.

You're not going to make a new synchro for less than the cost of a new one.
