Default problem with clutch / pedal

so now my 5 speed swap has about 1500 miles on it. I babied the car for the first 1k.

Firstly, when i bled the clutch i didnt like the pedal engagement, so i stiffened it as much as i could so the release point was at the top of the pedal. I adjusted the thread on the master cylinder all the way out, and the stop at the top of the pedal down, when the car is cool there is about an centimeter of slack, with no pressure on the pedal at all, then the normal stiffness, and about another cm and the clutch releases. when the car warms up the slack disapeers and the entire pedal is stiff, and the clutch releases a cm from the top at that point.

Last week my clutch started slipping when the car warmed up, i parked, let it cool, no slip until it warmed up again, i found that my release point on the pedal had moved. so when its warm the pressure on the pedal seems to be engaging the clutch.

So i adjusted the master cylinder down the pedal a bit, to give it a cm of slack when warm. but still about a cm or less after the stiffness the clutch engages still

Couple questions

will the master cylinder adjustment on the pedal cause the clutch to slip if there is no slack like in my situation

and when i adjusted the master cylinder down, the slack is extremely soft, even softer than the brake pedal, is that normal? or should the pedal remain stiff the entire way down? it doesnt fall down to the stiffness of the line because the spring, but thats all that holds it up im sure

You want about 3/4 inch of travel before the throwout bearing engages the pressure plate. More specifically you want as little as possible while still having a little bit of travel. It sounds like you got no play whatsoever. Just move the pushrod more in towards the firewall and tighten the locknut. Dont forget to tighten the locknut or the pushrod will slowly drift towards the firewall creating way too much play.

i think you have that backwards.

i loosened the locking nut on the pedal, and threaded it more toward the cabin, which created more slack in the pedal, there is no pressure at all for the first cm or so, then the pressure of the slave cylinder moving the clutch fork starts, then about another cm and the clutch engages completely.

does that sound about normal?

I would really think it would be more safe to have about 2cm of free play.
