i put my digicam under my intakemani. and got this picture to try and locate my knock sensor. is it the one on top? and if so then what is the green one on bottom? if not then what are both?? btw my ecu is throughing a code 23. and i have you are looking at the back side of a first gen jdm b16. and my check engine light only comes on after the car warms up completely.

 

I think the knock sensor is the green one...not 100% sure.

 

knock sensor is the top one the green one is the oil temp. sensor

 

ok sorry but i got one more question then....

a. what do these plug into they dont look like they would fit either the oil temp sens. or the KS..

b. and these

c. and what is the thing in the circle

the circled thing is the OIL pressure sensor

u shoulda labeled everyhting. then u wont have these problems. that 3 wire one looks like a TPS, or a MAP.

 

none of the 2 grey plugs are the iol they are either map or tps if u dont have them connected

OK.. the top sensor is suppose to be the knock snesor, but it's broken. The one on the bottom with the two prongs is the fan switch. Only pre 91 engines have those.

THose grey plugs you were showing later on were TPS and MAP plugs.

 

ok thanks. so if i got a new knock sensor which plug do i hook it up to.

anyone know what knock sensor i should get like model and year
or does someone have one i could buy??

 

knock sensors are universal. just ask to purchase one or talk with Honda

 

what does not having a KS do to my car. is it ok to drive with out it or is it running in a fail safemode or somthing making it run bad?

the green plug is vtec solenoid and the other is prob oil pressure.
the circled sensors are fan switch and knock like the other post said

You can have the knock sensor funtion disabled within the ECU. Not really recomended, but a lot of chipped ECU's have the knocks sesors disabled. Has the car been started? Are you throwing any codes?

 

Correct me if Im wrong but you are doing a 1g B16 in an OBD1 car? You will need a coolant fan switch harness connector from any 88-91 civic/crx to hook your fan switch wiring up correctly. The other sensors should pretty much plug in. PM me if you have questions.
