Default why isnt my vtec working?

I own a 1989 honda integra xsi vtec. Recently my engine check light came on and since then vtec has not been working. My mechanic cannot figure out what is wrong, he has checked both my distributor and computer: both seeming to be fine. Any ideas on what is wrong with my teg?

When the mechanic ran the check on the light it came back with codes for ignition and the cam angle sensor. Im starting to think that the problem lies with wiring.

Thats the thing, my mechanic sent my dizzy away for checking and it checked out all good. He even tested a new dizzy in my car and the prob was still there.
