Default vtec not working??

What are some reasons that the vtec might not work. i tried searching and it came up that if your vss isnt plugged in then it wont engage. My question is that can there be anything else that can cause this problem?? any help would be greatly appreciated thanks

certain check engine cids causes the VTEC to not kick in... there is a good thread on the top of this to tell you how to check for codes and what they mean you should check it out...

I ran into problems like that too. it all started after i swaped heads because my valve seats were all messed up. after we swapped the head and i tested it outthe check engine light would go on and i checked the code and it was the vtec solenoid so i unplugged it and put it back on then i reset my ecu. after reseting my ecu and what not the engine light turned off. then id start to drive it hit vtec every once in a while couldnt really feel vtec very well then the check light would turn back on. do you think my vtec solenoid is bad? im thinking the oil pressure has to do with some of it. or do you think my lines are clogged? any suggestions would be appriciated thanks

Take the solenoid off the motor (3 10mm bolts) and make sure the screen isnt clogged. ANd also check your oil level
