Default who has increased their displacement on their B18C

I was reading around and looking for a few stroker kits for the GSR engine. I want to up the displacement to around 1.95 liter and have the compression at 11.5.
But ive also read that messing with the stock bore and stroke measurements will probably give you better low end torque, but will mess up the high revving vtec engines are known for and mess up the high end power. I was looking at a 83mm bore and 90mm stroke which would up the displacement to around 1948 cc. Anybody here increased the size of their engine? What is your experience with it? Could you tell me the hp and torque you put up? and would you recommend me doing this?

uping the bore size for NA is great idea(im guessing ur goin NA bc of 11.5 comp)
it also works well for turbo. with turbo application u can still rev high and make great power, but once u increase the stroke i believe its starts to limit how high u can rev ur engine. but since u only want to increas stroke 2-3mm it shouldnt effect high end power. People that do a great job with engine builds are ERL, u might want to contact them and the can help u out a lot more.

The displacement goals you have is not uncommon. Many of the popular setups do increase their displacement to around 2.0L with GSR or LS blocks.

In my opinion, sleeving the B18C block is a better way to increase displacement. this way you are minimizing the custom/high end parts that are going into the motor, thus decreasing costs.
And with the Sleeving, you are already strengtening the block at the same time.

IF you do a stroker setup, you will have to get different length rods and/or custom pistons, which can increase costs and make it harder for replacement parts in the future.

cliff notes: Solution is to Sleeve the B18C block and bore to 84mm. Use off the shelf forged pistons and stock length rods with the stock 87mm stroke GSR crankshaft.

Hey, thanks for the reply. Im not sure what sleeving is, ive heard of it but i will read up on it later on. So sleeving it to a 84mm bore is the same as replacing the stock pistons with a 84mm bore pistons? Will sleeving the block alter the reving speed and power? What are the pros and cons of sleeving?

thanks again for the reply

let me get some pics to compare some sleeved blocks.

Here is a picture of a Stock sleeve block. This still has the stock cylinder walls and were just bore and honed to get a fresh surface for the new OEM cast pistons.

This is the SLEEVED version of the same block. Notice how the material is different. The sleeving process cuts away the original sleeves and presses in a new Iron Ductile cylinder sleeve. It is then bored out to the size you want to get the bore you need.
Stock bore on a B18 is 81mm and you can increase the bore size all the way up to 87mm after it has been sleeved. The max bore that is usually used for street cars are 84mm so it still has enough meat on the sleeve for proper sealing of the head gasket.

Here is a freshly sleeved block with the new Iron Ductile sleeves

note the slight difference in sleeve thickness due to the 81mm vs 84m bore.
one with the pistons is 84mm, the one without pistons is 81mm

So with the sleeved engine block, the size of the pistons, crankshaft, rods all stay the same? But i would have to buy new pistons and rods just so it can handle the new compression i want of 11.5?

Size of the pistons(bore) will change depending on the bore size you choose. The wrist pin height is the same as stock of course so it can use stock length rods.

The main purpose of Sleeving is to increase bore size and/or to strengthen the cylinder walls for high boost pressures. If you want a basic 1.8L 11.5:1 compression, you dont have to sleeve at all. The first block above is a 81.5mm bore 11.5:1 compression block. It doesnt require aftermarket rods and pistons. You can use all OEM rods and OEM cast pistons.
but of course its still the same discplacement as the original block.

thanks man, reallly appreciate all the help. You think you could give me an estimate of how much it might cost to sleeve the B18 block to 84mm? And know anywhere good that can do it. I live in south florida
