Who has had tranny problems, or knows of them?
I have seen way to many posts in various forums for this to be coincidence. I drove a BMW for over 200,000 miles with zero problems in the tranny.
Honda shouldn't be selling cars whose trannies fail around 50K miles. There is a real problem there.

My transmission has seen better days, but it is still functional @ 140k miles and any damage was done so by myself.

I have a cx. This was one of honda's only f-ups. Weak syncros. It started going out at 102k. I have heard many horror stories with the cx tranny.

The GSR tranny is a work of engineering art IMHO but like anything,it requires some preventative maintennance (like changing the oil periodically) Also, the way you drive it has a lot to do with it's longevity.
One thing to consider though, the packaging constraints of a front driver mean that the transmission case is fairly short compared to a rear drive car. There is a lot going on in a small space. That might have something to do with it.
BMW also builds their cars like tanks Their hard to break.

OK, cool. I figured it was operator error. Especially with the Reverse failures. Since reverse has no syncro, it is more apt to be damaged by a poor operator.
And my guess is that people are trying to cram it into a gear before the syncros match and either bend a shifting fork, or burn up the syncros.

well lets hopes it a linkage problem, that is about 10,000% easier and cheaper to fix than a bad syncro. If it is a bad syncro, and you feel froggy, you can probably get a rebuild kit for the tranny and rebuild it on a weekend.
