Default Cracked Tranny case?

I recently found out that my bro cracked the tranny case on his 00 si when he had it. He said he used an epoxy to fix it and it seemed to work because I only found out he did this a few weeks ago when he said it and he doesn't have the car anymore. It seemed to have worked because no one knew about it except him. Anyway the only reason I'm mentioning this is becuase I'm wondering how you can crack the case. Is it common? He only had the car for 2 years and it had about 20k miles on it, i don't know when it happened but 20k miles doesn't seems early for something liek that to happen. He definitely beat on his car a lot and did a lot of quick shifting, downshifts and stuff a lot, like everytime he drove it he took it to 8k at least once. Anyway, i know the honda trannies are weak but would hard shifts crack the case? Maybe a missed gear would?

now that you mention it he had a short shift installed, i think it was a neuspeed. Only mods he had was that and an aem short ram. He never mentioned the short shifter when he said it was cracked so i'd assume that the install didn't cause the problem.

Most of the cracked cases i've seen are caused by running over something. Next on the list is from differencial pins comming loose.

It takes quite an impact to crack a tranny case. They are fairly thick. I cracked my when I destroyed my differential. Metal scrapinal flew throughout the tranny and straight down into the casing, causing a crack to form and leak from. Another way to crack a casing is running over something hard.
