whats the point of a blaster coil ???
well i was readin up on this guy's engine build in on the net, he had a lot of MSD ignition parts, MSD SCI, MSD wires, MSD SS Blaster Coil ... ?? what the hell is that and what does it do ? just curious if anybody can explain it to me ... and i've looked it up on the net and their only $40 ????
ive had msd products on just about all the cars ive had. the msd ignition box shoots 4 sparks instead of the average one to have a fuller spark and entirely burn the mix. the coil shoots out between 35-45k volts, it just ups the normal sparking power, the wires allow more conductivity allowing a greater spark. those are just the basic msd stuff. with the ignition boxes u can get some cool add ons. like a rev limiter, rpm activated switch, connect a boost timng master for boosted cars, window switch, read up at their site. But to use the msd coil u have to use their cap which allows an external coil versus the normal internal coil.
hope it helps

i hated internal honda coils on my car after one went out and it took me a week to figure out what it was, so i bought the blaster coil and external cap. threw it on, started right up, and i havent had a problem with it in the last 10,000 miles. MSD=proven/reliable/decently priced

I bought a MSD coil because when my stock coil went up, it was cheaper to buy a blaster coil, lead wire, and the cap conversion kit, than it was to get a new OEM coil from the dealer.

Not always, but frequently. Depends on the part and on how high-end the aftermarket part is.
For instance, just about any aftermarket rear swaybar will easily cost you over $100, usually more like $200. But an OEM Type-R 22mm bar only costs about $60 from Carland Acura or someplace like that. Obviously a good case of the aftermarket companies charging too much.
Another one is the GSR front strut brace. Sure, it may not look that cool, but it's only like $35 or so. Most name-brand aftermarket ones are far more.
On the other hand, an OEM radiator (commonly needed for Integras) is between $300 and $400. There are several aftermarket rads in the price range too, but they're all-aluminum racing radiators like Fluidyne, Koyo, CSF, etc.
Seems to me that if it's a serious racing part, it may be kinda pricey, but the price is actually in line with its value, whereas the trendy but not-so-functional parts are massively overpriced (like strut braces) for what they are. Hence the MSD stuff not being too expensive. Also, stuff from older American companies, that traditionally made parts for American cars but are now branching into imports, seems to be reasonably priced.
