Default timing is off by 30 degrees!

alright, got my 93 h22 EG CX, with a 97 h22a4 motor into it. i swapped out the external coil dizzy for a jdm internal one. i brought it into a shop and now i cant start the car untill i turn my dizzy more than whats allowed. the mechanioc basically cut the mounts on the dizzy so he can spin it counter clockwise till the timning was correct. the firing order is not the same either, it seems that its a step behind the correct order, (i.e. starting from the lower left of the dizzy 1, 3, 4, 2. but its in staed from the lower left corner 3, 4, 2, 1.)) it may sound weird but, thats what it is. does anyone understand whats goin on?

just check to make sure your wires are right.

3 4
1 2
on dizzy

4 3 2 1
on valve cover

i dunno about the 3,4,2,1 part

It sounds like your wires are off one in sequence on the distributor. The firing order is 1-3-4-2. Set the engine's #1 piston at TDC, with the timing marks on the cams straight up. Remove the distributor cap, and put the #1 plug witr on the terminal that the rotor is pointing to. Then in a clockwise rotation (when looking at the distributor cap) connect #3, then #4, finally #2. Replace the cap and the engine should fire properly.

will do that, but the car runs ok with the plugs at 3, 4, 2, 1. but i know its suppose to be 1, 3, 4, 2. im guessing this is the reason why my timing is waaaay off.

The correct firing order is still 1 3 4 2. Look at your order, 3 4 2 1 is the same order just starting from a different point.

If your 'mechanic' couldn't figure that out, you could find another mechanic. Not only that, he screwed up your distributor by cutting off the mounting tabs. All he needed to do was take your wires & swap each one to the next position around, and everything would have been OK.

yes, thats actually how it is, it runs fine, but there is a lack of power and everything else. yeah i know that mechanic sucks, but its just not as simple as replacing the firing order, cause when i do, the car wont even start at all because the timing just aint right,.

I'm guessing your timing belt was installed properly?

Yeah, when I bought my $500 cx not too long ago, the guy had the timing belt installed 180 degrees off. It ran, but absolutely no power, even for a cx.

I couldn't believe it either.

how did you fix it? i recently put on a new timing belt, and yes i did it correctly. i just checked on the car again. at TDC, the distubutor rotor is facing the lower right corner where the #2 cylinder is suppose to be if it was correct. i tried take out the rotor and examining the inside of the dizzy. can i take out the main spindle in the dizzy, and readjust it to the lower left at TDC on the rotor?
