whats the difference performance and price wise?
I have a 99 Honda civic EX that I want to do an engine swap on but I'm not sure exactly what engine will best fit for me. I want to go fast off the start and have great power all around. I was thinking either B20 or H22. Is there a major difference between these two? I'm sorry if this is a stupid question but I'm just getting started and I want to get into some racing.
cool so the h22 would fit decent and not give me much trouble?
would I have to buy anything else to make this motor fit and work great or could I just simply bolt it in and hook everything back up?

If the H22 was easy and cheap then everyone would have one. Since they're not easy and cheap everyone goes with something easier. B20 would be a good one. Good amount of torque. The LS (B18B) is also a good motor as is the Si (B16A) and GSR (B18C1). Go with the B20...not too many people have it.

I'm no expert here but I remember hearing somewhere that the H22 fits but is really tight. so defeatly loosing your AC if you've got it.
I've decided to get a B18C1 because I should be able to keep all my accesories and have it fit easily in. oh ya, and I'm too cheap to get a B18C5
as far as bolting it in I think you'll have to get modifyed motor mounts and wiring harness, but the rest of it bolts right up

*doh* you said '99 civic. I'm thinking 5G which is up to 95. not sure about your car

It is a pretty simple install, but judging from the questions you're asking and such its not something you yourself should attempt.
The reason H22's arent a good in a civic is because, yes they are big and fitment can be tricky, but the main reason is because they are too much motor for a Civic to handle in cornering and daily driving, they can be monsters on the straight track but not something anyone should stick in their daily driver.

b20's (CRVTEC's) are becoming pretty popular, but I have to admit I dont fully understand them. I know they are a CRV block and a VTEC head (b16 or b18c) but I dont know how realible the power is, what mods work well with them etc. If I were you I'd go with a b18c1 for about $3100, b16's are about $600 cheaper but you lose the torque increase and 10 hp of the b18c, not to mention a larger displacement that will respond better to modifications later. Hope that helps a little.
