Default What tool to use to tighten stuff like this?

Long story short, I'm about to change out the right side (if you're sitting in the car) rack end on my P/S gearbox...

Illustration No. 1 is the part I'm changing. Now here's where I'm stuck at...The Helm's manual calls for this part to be tightened to 40 ft-lbs. But the problem is that I can't tighten it using a socket cuz it won't fit right on it. I can use adjustable wrenches to tighten it, but not to torque it to specs.

So my question is what tool(s) would I need to tighten it to 40 ft-lbs. correctly? I'd use a torque wrench (duh) but like I said, I can't get any sockets to fit onto the rack end. TIA!

The tool you need is called a crowsfoot, avail. at Sears, will fit the torquewrench.

Correct, a crowsfoot is what you need. It will allow you to attach a "wrench-like" end to an extension coming from the torquewrench. There is a torque correction factor when using a crowsfoot that you must consider, otherwise you will get incorrect torque.

You can't buy the right size at sears though, they stop at 18 and you need a 19, well at least on the outer tide rod, the inner might actually be a 17.
