What are oil rings?
Oil rings are simply just the lowest rings on the piston... They prevent oil from going all the way up into the combustion chamber while still allowing oil to pass lubricating your cylinder walls and wrist pin... Atleast for Honda and many other cars above it you'll have the second compression ring and above that the top compression ring... Hope this helps, Peace
Yea, anything is possible... You say compression, do you mean that your psi reading from a compression test are within spec? Normally when your rings are failing all of them go at around the same time under normal useage... Are you having a problem which you think might be related to them?
Just burning lots of oil. Trying to figure out what is causing it . My shop said it isn't the piston rings because the compression test and leak down test were perfect. Could be the oil rings but they said they would have to start tearing down the engine and it will be costly.

The more proper term for the lowest ring is 'oil control ring'. This ring is typically a three piece ring. And its job is to control the amount of oil that reaches the upper rings. Specifically, it allows enough oil past it to lubricate the upper rings. But not so much that oil consumption is high and the engine smokes.
