another look at my compression test thread
i have a freshly built gsr motor that is burning oil like no tomorrow. blue smoke on acceleration. it has burned about 3 quarts of oil in the first 500 miles or so. i took the turbo off, checked the charge pipes and found no oil. i pulled the intake manifold and found oil in there as well as in 2 of the runners. i did a compression test just for the hell of it and it came out 160, 180, 150, 180. i dont have access to the tools for a leakdown test (i know that would be a better judge of things). im thinking something with the rings is to blame and so is the builder. any ideas what the problem could be?

Re: (Jared)
try a capfull of oil in the cyls when u comp test. if the #s come up then the oil is hellping seal the rings and that is likely your problem.
try and find a leakdown tester. i got one from summit through my local napa for 70 bucks and its been a lifesaver. **** i even used it tonight to put some truth to why my 190 compression motor burns some oil

what were your findings after that? Bad rings or was leakdown good which would show it was more than likely valve seals?

my cyls had about 15-25% leakdown all on 190 dry compression test. it was coming out of the exhaust valves. i took the exhaust mani off and the air would changge pitch and tone when id put my hand over the exhaust port. i also had a tiny dribble of liquid oil running down the exhaust port on the #3 cyl. im assuming its dripping down the valve and through the seal, which sucks cus the seals and guides are brand new. 84mm sleeved lsvtec by the way

i did the oil thing and both of the cylinders w/ low compression came up to nearly 180 with the other 2...i guess that means its the rings then. wOOt for having to bring it back to the builder to have it torn down again

ur builder better eat the cost of the re-ringing.
Sounds like he doesnt too many hondas, i could be wrong.

as far as i know it was honed...yeah its all on the builder for this one. the guy i brought it to basically just pulls the motor apart and sends it away somewhere in miami to have it put together...not really trusting him too much rite now.
