i was having problems starting my car yeasterday, and i was just messing around with stuff..So i took the map sensor out, and it started, and ran fine.

Today i'm having the same problems starting without it in, and i pop it back in, and it starts and runs just fine. My engine seems kinda moody.

what does the map sensor do, and is it necessary?

 

what do you mean codes?

 

what kind of car do u have first of all ....the codes are check engine codes that appear ...on your ECU ...or dash ...

codes/mil codes/check engine light. do you have one lit up on your idiot gauge? if so, if you'd like to find out what code that check engine light is throwing, you need to go look under the passenger side of your dash for a green rubber cube.

In that green cube, you'll find 2 plugs inside of it. Pull the smaller plug out and jump it while the your car is on and your check engine light is on also....

once you jump that smaller plug, watch the check engine light in your gauge cluster. It should start blinking. Take note of how many times it blinks, but remember...
long blinks=incriments of 10
short blinks=incriminents of 1

So, lets say you have one long blink followed by 7 fast blinks...that's code 17.

Personally, i think the cam/crank angle sensors are more important

 

The MAP sensor tells the Ecu what the presure of the air in the intake manifold is. The MAP sensor has no idea how much air is flowing.
