What is compression?
ok, to put it in real world and laymans terms think about this (on an engine with 10.0:1)
let's get a botle of 1 liter and fill the 14.5% (because is stoich or the best compromise between Oxygen and Fuel, you'll learn about it in the future) of it with Fuel, ok, now the engine will compress that volume (1 liter here) to .100 Liters or 100 MiliLiters that would be a 10.0:1
Meaning that the volume will be compressed 10 times it's originally volume.
So your car compress the Air/Fuel mixture 11.5 times the original volume of it.
and it's expressed like this 11.5:1 meaning 11.5 is going to be compressed to 1

Thanks! That makes sense.

No it doesn't. Do the arithmetic, I just did to check.
V = pi/4 * bore^2 * stroke * 4cyl
H23: 86.0mm x 97.0mm gives 2254cm^3
B18: 81.0mm x 87.2mm gives 1797cm^3
