Compression questions.
I dont under stand compression. like i know how to compare them to factory specs. but i hear lower compression is better for a all motor build and a high compression is for turbo's? why is this?
and if i add 3 head gaskets together will this bring my compression up?
I'm planning to supercharge my D16Z6 soon. and first need an understanding of all this compressions.

Nope, backwards. Low compression for trubo, high for all motor. Low for turbo because you are forcing air into the cylinder, so you want as much room as possible. And high for all motor because you want the fuel and air to be compressed alot more so the explosion is bigger, turning the crank faster which starts the next explosion (ignition in another cylinder) faster, etc. etc.
3 head gaskets would lower your compresion, becasue you are adding more space between the piston and top of the combustion chamber.

Search up in the engine theory forum hear and stuff. Compression is partly what gives power. Heres a compression raito c/r, 10.0:1 this means if you take the point its at, at bottom dead center when you go to top dead center it will be a 1/10th of that. So basically at top dead center it would have all of the air and fuel squeezed into a 1/10th of the total cylinder volume. With 12.0:1 it would be 1/12th. With all-motor apps you need high compression to make power, they tighter everything is the better bang you get (haha) and the more power you make. However high compression makes things unstable, so you will need a tune. For this reason turbo apps need lower compression because of all that will be crammed in the cylinder and to keep it more stable from detonation. The common turbo c/r is between 8.0:1 and 9.0:1, then all motor's apps are usually 11.0:1 and higher. To gain and lose compression in small amounts, you can use headgaskets. You can simply buy 2 or 3 and put them together though. You buy mls (multi layer steel) and take a layer out to raise compression or just buy a thicker than o.e. (original equipment) to lower it. This works because: With a thinner h/g (head gasket) you reduce the volume in the cylinder (basically lowering the head) so it raises compression and vise versa. Just to cover diesels for a sec if someone brings it up, diesels run anywhere from 15.0:1 - 25.0:1 because they dont use spark plugs like us, they compress air/fuel so much it becomes unstable and combusts. You cant have this with gasonline engines.

and don't supercharge your d16. just a plain bad idea. a supercharger takes power to make power and with the little power that has, it's just not a good idea
