compression ratio??
i may be getting a
but oh well, I dont know so im going to ask.
I did a compression test on my motor and got 225 across except cylinder 4, did a 195 anways, besides that.....what are these numbers that i keep on seeing...
such as: 9.5:1 or 10.0:1 ( just randomly picking numbers ) what does those numbers mean??? people say LS has low compression good for boosting, typeR has high compression good for all motor....WHAT DOES THESE #'s MEAN???
if i did 225 on the scale....what is that???

225 is psi, which is pounds per square inch, or amount of pressure.
10:1 is a compression ratio. If you start out with 10cc and you have 10:1 compression ratio, the amount of gas is now 1cc. It has been compressed into that amount of area.
Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.

10.0:1 is an example of Compression Ratio
compression ratio compares cylinder volumes with the piston at TDC(minimum cylinder volume) and BDC (maximum cylinder volume).
compression ratio is given as 2 numbers. i.e. 9:1 (9 to 1). this means the maxium cylinder volume is nine times as large as the minimum cylinder volume
225 is an example of Compression Pressure
this is the amount of pressure produced in the engine cylinder on the compression stroke.
basically, compression stroke is an indicator of engine condition. if low, there's a problem allowing air to leak out of the cylinder.
