Default Wastegate install help

The instructions say to connect the top of the wastegate (Tial) to a vacuum source before the throttle body plate. I dont have any ports to connect to before the throttle body. Can I use the vacuum source after the throttle body? The ones from the IM? What is the difference?

I know the blow off valve goes to the IM vacuum source.

Thanks in advance.

Paul

Top port is for boost controller.Side port is for vacuum source. Many people use a t in the brake booster line.

As stated above, you should be connecting the side port to a boost source, and the top port isn't used unless you have a boost controller. While you can technically use any boost source, including an intake manifold source, for the side port of the wastegate, TiAL recommends it be a boost-only source, before the TB. The reasoning behind this is that with a boost-only source, the diaphram inside the wastegate essentially undergoes less stress. If the diaphram sees vacuum, it gets stretched in one direction, then when it sees boost, it gets stretched in the other direction. This can lead to premature wastegate failure. However, it should be noted that many people(myself included) have used a manifold source for wastegate reference with no ill effects.

Another question for you.

If I disconnect the wastegate, my car will not see any boost? I want to drive the car without boost until it gets to a tuner.

Thanks

Yes, if you take the wastegate off, you won't see boost since you'd be pumping exhaust out of the wastegate port.
