Default Vtec Test light?

Talked to someone yesterday who said there were instructions on honda tech on how to wire in quick and easy test light to see if you Vtec is engaging. Did a couple quick searches and didn't find anything. requesting some help in finding this.

BTW, 99 Si. no CEL (and yes it works) and the reason for thinking I have no vtec... I don't hear a distinct change in sound or feel.

go to radio shack, pick up a 12V LED.
black lead to ground, red lead to Green/yellow wire in B12.

Wire in the LED at the ECU plug or under the hood at the Vtec solenoid? I'm assuming the yellow/green wire at the ecu, and not to follow it to solenoid. I'm assuming if I'm getting the light and still don't feel vtec the wire will be the same at the solenoid?
And that Diagram is for the D16.... this is a B16a2 car... Different plug or no?

if you want to run it to the solinoid you can, but you'll have to position the LED so you can see it from inside the car. (VTEC does not turn on when sitting still)
At the ECU is the easiest IMO.

if the light turns on then you have some other problem, the ECU is telling th solinoid to turn on, maybe the screen is clogged, solinoid is bad or wire is broken. But if the light doesn't turn on then you start looking elsewhere.

OBD2b ECUs have the same pin outs, D or B it doesn't matter.

Now what type of things would cause Vtec to not engage AND not throw a CEL or any other warning light on the dash?
