LED light for vtec?
i have a little led that i want to hook up when my vtec kicks in. Does anyone know exactly how to wire it up. do i follow the wires directly to the solenoid? The bulb has a red and blue wire coming out of it. anyone? thanks.
Hook up the Anode to the vtec, Grn/Yel wire at the soleniod. or at the ecu.
and the Kathode to a ground. you probly will have to use a resistor so the LED dont pop. somthing around 300ohms should work.
that resistor goes on the ground wire.
i have a flashing one already wired for 12v off ebay, I had it sitting around so i just hooked it up and I like it...........lol, pretty cheesy but people are like "WTF was that?!" I tell em it means my motor almost blew up ..........lol
Kathode
...sounds like a bad name
lol
Cathode...anyways...
it doesn't matter which side of the LED you put the resistor on, you just want another element in the circuit so the LED only has its turn on voltage, which is usually around .7V for most ebay LEDs
The smaller the resistor you use the more current will flow through the diode, aka it will be brighter, but you should ask the guy you buy it through how much current it can take before it blows.
You should put it up in the dash in one of the empty bulb slots under the water temp and fuel guages and make a little VTAK sticker so it lights up VTAK.
If I were you I'd use a regular bulb instead of an LED, it would make it simpler, and most bulbs can handle 12V, though I think the stock honda ones use a regulated 5V.

Soo...I was bored yesterday all day and decided to visit The Source by Circuit City (AKA Radio-Shack).
Got myself some 22g wire, a nice 12V LED with a built in clip to hold it self in place for $3.99. And a soldering gun, cuz I don't have one, and I figured what the hell I might aswell buy one.
I'm happy with the install it looks clean and almost factory.
It might be more usefull for the SOHC crowd, because they can't really tell when their v-tec kick in.
None the less, I'm happy with it
Here is a zoomed out view.

This is a close-up.

This is what it looks like at night, it has a constant slight glow, not brighter than any other light on the cluster.

And this is with v-tec at work.
