Default VTEC problem!! (I searched)

I drive a 2000 ITR. I have a problem with my motor with the Vtec not working. I have already searched but still couldn't figure out the problem. I have checked my oil and the oil level is fine. I have also checked the Vtec solenoid by giving it 12v and it clicked, so I assume that it's fine right? Then I tried to wired a light to the wire connecting to the solenoid from the ecu to see if the ecu is giving a signal. The light lights up, so I assume that the ecu it working fine, too. The check engine light NEVER came on so I'm guessing that the oil pressure unit is also fine. Therefore, I have no clue of what could be the problem. PLEASE HELP.

Hope you guys can help me out.

Thanks.

is your car reaching operating temperature? If you have a spoon thermostat or something that makes your car run cooler, it may not fully reach operating temperature while driving normally.

also check your oil pressure, vtec needs 50 psi+ to work.
your dummy light doesnt tell you anything, it only reads when below 4psi, i think

Well, the light was hooked up to the signal wire from the ecu going to the solenoid. I might be wrong but if the light lights up, doesn't it mean that everything is fine (oil pressure, temp, etc.) that's why the ecu is giving signal to activate VTEC? Doesn't the ecu only give out a signal when it's ok for Vtec to engage?

well since you bought it like that the previous owner could of messed with the head; maybe the vtec rocker shaft oil controlvalve thingy's are missing, head oil control valve...

I would STILL check vtec oil pressure...there is a port on the head for that

i had a problem somewhat like this while back. no vtec, no CEL, and solenoid was fine. what happened on mine was when you remove the cam covers there are 2 small 10mm bolts on each cam cover near the cam gear. when removing mine they broke. so i thought it was no big deal because all the other 12mm bolds were still on the cam covers. i believe it was the ones on the exhaust side have something to do with oil pressure. so take your valve cover and make sure those bolts are in. hope this helps. i know how frusrating it can be, took me 3 weeks to figure it out.

thanks for all your help you guys. I'll try to look under the valve cover.

Also, does those oil control valves ever go bad? and would I be able to see if they're missing if I look under the valve cover?

I mean the oil control valve. Can I see this if I look under the valve cover? But I'll check for the missing bolts. Hope that's the problem. Thanks anyway.

I just opened up the valve cover today and everything seems to be in perfect order. Nothing is lose or seems to be missing. There was no sludge build up anywhere. It was suprisingly clean! So don't think there's a clog anywhere.
Now I have absolutely no idea what other thing can be wrong!
