Default vtec problem

i just did a b18c1 swap into my friends 92 si hatch on sat. and it was the best swap i ever did! ever thing is just plug n play! we didnt get an o2 sensor for it yet and the engine light is on, its faster than the stock d16z6 bet i dont think i hear vtec engaging. ive heard that engine lights will disable vtec, is this true?

we got an o2 sensor in her and she moves! the vtec is still really quiet so im not sure if the o2 sensor had a whole lot to do with it, cause it was hell loud with anopen o2 hole but we gained some low end torque and she definately leaned out some. thanks for all the input! I highly recomend the swap to anyone it was a direct bolt in! no mods, no wiring, nothing! 94 gsr into a 92 si hatch!
